Community Garden Facilitator (10 hours per week)

Our community teaching garden was lying dormant for three years until 2020 when the trust redeveloped the once thriving garden to boost food security and community health and wellbeing. Together with our community we have co-created a garden with the aim to make it easy for people to access healthy, local kai. We utilise the space as a teaching garden, promoting how to save money and become environmentally sustainable. The garden’s benefits are far reaching; our elder care home enjoy the harvest of fresh veggies, whanau learn how to grow, volunteers offer time in return for produce and we even help fill food parcels.

We are looking for a co-ordinator who has a good knowledge of food gardening and can create a strong relationship with our volunteers and wider community. The co-ordinator must feel comfortable and at ease facilitating helpers and guiding activity. Volunteers help in the garden on Friday mornings and we also aim to host additional teaching garden sessions for the community.

Must have knowledge of organic gardening practices.

Site Gardens (8 hours per week)

Our gardens are a vital part of the well-being of our residents at Kauri Lodge. Having beautiful gardens can make the world of difference in the lives of our elders. We are looking for a gardener for our trust site to keep the gardens tidy and well maintained and looking beautiful for our visitors and residents.

Please note, because we are a DHB funded residential elderly care site, all applicants must have received their Covid-19 vaccinations.

Both roles are employed on a self-employed contract basis.
